Bookmarked to check on Monday morning and see what the bidding is at. I know, it’s a bit silly, but I’ve always sort of liked the Bricklin SV1 . I f the price doesn’t climb much, maybe I’ll try to win it, then fly down and drive it back up north. Being a 1975, it would be smog exempt , and thus ripe for a powerplant with far more to offer than the 351 Windsor’s paltry 175hp.

Alternatively, convince me that I’m a big dumb-dumb for even considering this as a proper waste of time and money. Of course, without knowing the reserve price, it could all be moot. And sure sure, my girl will probably kick me out if I buy it. But I could probably hack up a couple of my tents and build a sweet living space between this, the C5, and the Cube.

The wacky wavy panel gaps are a good place to start... The 351w might have been the best part of these.

I like to think they give it character. Cars need character.

And I have nothing against the Windsor itself. I should have said that I would like a fresher version of that powerplant, starting with something like the Boss 351 block from Ford Racing.

This thing is rough and the seller is delusional. I would be surprised if he hasn’t set reserve at something like $10K. Even at this point, t here are better ways to spend $2500 bucks.

I like the tri-corner hood and fold-up headlights.

I can’t really speak to this exact car since we don’t know the reserve. It could be reasonable or the owner could be expecting an insane amount.

In general though I’m a fan of Bricklis. Yes, they definitely have downsides like panel issues due to warping and just general bad build quality.

I think the positives outweigh those though. They have a cool, funky look. The powertains, both the AMC and Ford, have good parts availability especially compared to other older niche vehicles that had unique engines and transmissions. The value is still relatively low meaning you could actually drive it or modify it without worrying about how much you’re killing the value all the time. You could easily do a motor swap without any permanent modifications that would make it a much more enjoyable car to drive.

Plus, gullwing doors!

Once the bidding went north of $4,000 with the reserve still not met, I was out. Bit of a shame, but I would have been wholly in on a funky weird piece of automotive history for $3,500 or less.
